Even You (Can Make a Difference)

Greetings and good morning brothers and sisters. This is Dr. James Perry continuing with our series
where we seek to explore the deeper meanings of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years,
the heavenly Father has revealed many revelations of spiritual truth to me, and I want to share them
with you. This morning we seek to understand how even you can make a difference.

And now, sit back and listen to today's message.

Even You (Can Make a Difference)

"And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name
of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward." Matthew, Chapter 10, Verse
42

Brothers and sisters, in today’’s broadcast we take up the problem of making a difference in the
evolving world crises. Profiteers have invaded the areas of necessity, wringing every penny they can
out of people. And the people have no choice but to pay if they can for they have to have these
necessities. Oil prices have just reached over one hundred dollars a barrel. The way society is
structured, with jobs being far away from their actual dwelling place, people have to have gasoline
in order to get to their jobs. There is no other way around it. Mass transit has gone up in smoke,
defeated by the profiteers who make more profits by mandating that everybody drive their own
vehicles to work. And because people do not like each other, this strategy works.

The cost of health care has gone through the roof. Every innovation--every new drug--costs more
than the previous ones. Healthcare is designed to make the most out of the life that we have been
given. It is designed to defeat those factors and influences that may shorten its natural run. It
becomes immediately clear that people will pay this price if they can find away to pay it. And this
is guaranteed by the advertizing of these products with the not-so-subtle admonition that if you
don’’t use these products your life or the life of your loved ones will be shortened. What is driving
up the cost of health care and the cost of living? Greed and fear.

Families are breaking down. Both parents are working now with full time jobs, working overtime,
trying to make ends meet, and still they are falling behind. Families are losing their homes at an
alarming rate due to the manipulation of interest rates, and because of inappropriate lending practices
made by greedy bankers. The dissolution of marriage is over fifty percent. Marriage has always been
difficult, but economic necessity held them together, along with the fear stimulus of religion. But
now the economic bond has been broken--couples have been liberated from each other. And the fear
stimulus of religion has lost its power to hold them together. Sometimes the dissolution takes place
because of the failure to understand the true nature of marriage. Marriage can not be built upon a
foundation of emotional ecstasy, for when the emotional ecstasy subsides and finally disappears,
there will be nothing to hold it together. And couples often discover that they don’’t even like each
other. Not even helpless children who need both of their parents can hold a matrimonial bond
together. Counselors have repeatedly said that if couples can’’t get along, then it is better for the
children that they separate. No mandates have arisen from humanism to solve the problem of getting
along with others.

The world is in conflict. War rages everywhere. Even on our country, we are locked in a deadly
conflict with religious terrorists whose aim is no less than to destroy modern civilization and
transport the world back to the middle ages. The basis for this attitude is the disillusionment with
modern civilization as well as the unfair advantage maintained and perpetuated by the advanced
nations of the world. There is a sense of unfairness running rampart though every activity of living.
The Gods of fear have become impotent in solving the problems of modern society. Science is on
the runaway stretch of discoveries. Almost every day some new technological or scientific
breakthrough is announced. Sadly there are no breakthroughs in the discovery of wisdom or true
religion which are so essential in preventing the breakdown of civilization or infusing true meanings
into the purpose of life.

While greed may increase the quantity of living, it is powerless to increase the quality of living.
Greed seeks to solve a problem that cannot be solved by material means, for at the bottom of greed
is insecurity. There is no security in the material world. The greedy person discerns--and rightly so--
that he is just one incident from material disaster, and he knows that no matter how much he
accumulates, he is powerless to do anything about it. But the need for security continues, and so does
the only material tool at his command: continue to accumulate more and more at the expense of
others. This unfair distribution of wealth creates misery and untold suffering among those who have
unwittingly yielded up their share of the material goods of life to shrewd, greedy profiteers.
While fear may keep the mind ever vigilant, it is powerless to solve the basic problem that is causing
the fear in the first place--the consciousness of being mortal. Both of these problems have their
solutions beyond the material level. And even though most of the civilized nations of the world are
religious in some form, it is not the kind of religion that has the power to vanquish the need for greed
by the furnishing the supply of plenty, nor does it have the power to vanquish fear by rendering the
consciousness of eternal life, and this is where you come in.

There is a core of individuals in the world today who have solved the problem of greed and fear.
These are the brothers and sisters who have found their way into the kingdom of heaven through the
good graces of Jesus’’s spirit, the Spirit of Truth, where they enjoy spiritual living. Spiritual living
yields the consciousness of eternal life and love. It yields a meaning and a value that destroys the
greed and fear stimulus. It gives joy to the meaning of the routine things of life by which man must
abide. Those who have found their way into this marvelous light also know what it is like not to be
in the light of the Father’’s love. They have transcended the purely material life.

There is a plan for those souls who have found the way that consists of their displaying the values
of the spirit to their less illuminated brothers and sisters in all of their contacts with them. This is not
so much a display of words and philosophy as it is a display of the living spiritual values that
emanate from the divine spirit within their souls. Their benighted brothers and sisters also have this
divine spirit within them, but it needs to be stimulated. The need for it to be stimulate is present all
around them, and in their lives, but what is needed is the spark for this spirit to become active.

When the strong and powerful view the weak and disenfranchised, few feelings of empathy and care
emerge from them, but when the spiritually activated view the weak and the disenfranchised, they
are flooded with feelings of empathy and care. They have a strong desire to help alleviate the
suffering of their less fortunate brothers and sisters. They recognized that the inequalities of life are
designed not for the exploitation of their brothers and sisters but are stimuli designed to reveal the
Father’’s love and mercy in the world. When marriages break down in those who are normal minded,
it is because they have failed to make the transition from the weak glue of romantic passion to the
unbreakable bond of divine love. They simply have failed to learn how to divinely love each other.

If each individual who has entered the kingdom would posses themselves of the glorious self
consciousness that they are indeed the representatives of the Father in this inglorious world, this
consciousness would govern all of their attitudes and actions. The net result of this self
consciousness of being the Father’’s representative in the world would be a constant display of the
spiritual values of the Father, which would ignite the smoldering stimulus of divine love in the souls
and minds of the greedy and the fearful. And these self-conscious people would go on to do the same
thing with others. Yes, even you can make a difference. But will you?

This concludes today's message on understanding how you can make a difference. We hope you find
something in this message to ponder and pray about as you go about your day.

Until next time, this is Dr. James Perry.
