The Assignments of Love

Greetings, brothers and sisters. This is Dr. James Perry continuing with our series where we seek to
explore the deeper meanings of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years, the heavenly
Father has revealed many revelations of spiritual truth to me, and I want to share them with you. This
morning we ponder our lives as seek to understand the meaning of the assignments of love.

And now, sit back and listen to today's message.

The Assignments of Love

"As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my
commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments
and abide in his love." John, Chapter 15, Verses 9 and 10.

Our Father in heaven gives us assignments of love, brothers and sisters. These are selected and
administered for our spiritual perfection and for the divine love of those with whom we are in
relationship on a daily basis. We shall examine the foundations that makes these assignments
possible and how the heavenly Father through his Son, Jesus, uses these assignments to perfect his
children here on earth. We shall also look at the training that is imparted before these assignments
are made. And finally we shall show how these assignments are used to further train the one who is
assigned to a particular spiritual task.

Before being assigned a love task, the assignee must heed the words of Jesus, who said: Whosoever
cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like; He is
like a man which build a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the
flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded
upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not is like a man that without a foundation built a house
upon the earth which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that
house was great. Our characters must be strong enough to adequately support the ever growing and
enlarging spiritual nature. This can only be done by submitting to the Father's will. Without this
superstructure of sufficient strength, the soul cannot adequately support the superstructure of
spiritual reality which is to be built upon it. But once this is accomplished, the assignee is ready for
his assignments.

Basically the problem is to bring spiritual light to those who sit in spiritual darkness. As the Father
views it, there are two groups of souls, those who know him and those who don't. The difficulty is
for those who know him to reveal him to those who don't. And as with all knowledge, there are
various levels, ranging from no knowledge of the Father at all to complete knowledge (those who
are completely unlike Him and those who are perfectly like Him). But the best way to effect this
exchange of spiritual ignorance for spiritual knowledge is for those who are just slightly ahead in
knowledge to reveal that knowledge to those who are slightly behind. And thus the whole enterprise
is arranged so that those who have knowledge are given the opportunity to share it with those who
have less knowledge. This whole administrative process of assigning individuals and bringing
individuals together is under the supervision and control of our angels. They are the ones who so
skillfully work behind the scene to create circumstances so that all of this interaction can take place.

But in this environment, the displayer of spiritual light may be involved in the task of bringing light
on multiple levels. That is, he may be bringing spiritual knowledge to multiple levels of individuals,
with various degrees of darkness or various degrees of light. This requires skill in adjusting the
spiritual light so that it provides just the right light for the different individuals who sit in darkness.
As Jesus says: "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and be led to
glorify your Father who is in heaven."  Remember divine love benefits all and harms none. The love
is manifested by unselfishly serving our brothers and sisters. By doing so, we in effect bring this light
to them, for the light is received through loving service to our brothers and sisters.

And this spiritual light is the light of love. The revelation of the Father is the revelation of His love
through His Son, Jesus, for His mortal children. This love is manifested outward through the soul
of the individual, which bathes him as it showers upon some other sister or brother. But it does
require skill and wisdom, as well as knowledge, to effectively display this knowledge under a variety
of circumstances. There are several spiritual tools or aids that one uses in revealing this light to those
who sit in darkness. But first we must look at the conditions of the souls who are to receive this light,
for this will determine what tools we use and what degree of light we use, for "While light dispels
darkness, it can also be so "blinding" as to confuse and frustrate. We are admonished to let our light
so shine that our fellows will be guided into new and godly paths of enhanced living. Our light
should so shine as not to attract attention to self."

It is natural for the soul to seek this light. It was designed to be nourished and sustained from the
light of the Father's love. But oftentimes something happens to disrupt this natural growth process.
Usually a soul starts out in its initial exploration seeking to give love as well as receive it, and it is
here that the problem begins. Sometimes and sometimes too often, the soul is rebuffed in its efforts
to love and find love from his brothers and sisters. Sometimes this rejection is done by the very
brother or sister who is entrusted with guiding and directing the new soul. And those who are
entrusted with guiding the new soul may have suffered the same fate when they were just getting
started spiritually. What should be a progressive process of passing the love of the Father to those
below us gets blocked. And sometimes this failure to pass the Father's love on may be due to
rebellion.

In such a situation the rejected soul may react in several ways: It may build a wall around itself to
further protect it from injury, believing that all other souls will injure it also. The brick wall of
bitterness and rejection or scorned affection effectively prevents the light from penetrating it, but it
also prevents the light from leaving. In this situation, the soul slowly dies unless a way can be found
to melt this barrier of evil. Sometimes the soul may respond by creating havoc in the lives of others.
It does this because it is seeking love and tries to get the attention of other souls in any way it can,
often in a disruptive manner. Those not recognizing the genesis of this behavior may respond in an
inappropriate way, further rejecting this starving soul and compounding a bad situation worse.
Sometimes this lack of nourishment causes the soul to become so sick, that it cannot receive the
nourishment of truth in full strength. Sometimes a soul is mistaught and becomes fanatical, distorting
the Father's love into something that is not true, beautiful, or good. Sometimes the soul is given a
dead experience in the place of living love. This starves the soul. And sometimes the soul is just
downright confused, having got caught in a crosscurrent of conflicting and complex material
learning. All of these negative experiences have a devastating effect on those qualities that the soul
needs to stabilize itself. These qualities are faith, trust, hope.

So an analysis of the soul's darkness can provide the right degree of light and tools that are needed.
As the light displayer receives his assignment, his experience, knowledge of the light, and his
willingness to serve are all taken into consideration. The stage is set. And onto this stage marches
the light bringer. In one situation, as he attacks the barrier of bitterness and rejected and scorned
affection, he will need patience as his primary tool. As the light begins its work, it will take time to
gradually disassemble the brick wall of evil. Patience is required as countless acts of love and mercy
are hurled at the brick wall of evil. His own faith and trust and hope will receive a severe test as
initially it looks like the wall is impregnable. But the light displayer should always remember the
power of the light. The light never fails to dismantle the wall of evil.

Sometimes the displayer of light must patiently wait while some cycle of distorted reality runs its
course (as in the case of the fanatical soul or the case of one who feasts on a dead meal of distorted
truth). The truth displayer allows for one to realize error in these cases before the light can find a
favorable reception. Sometimes the light displayer requires using all tools at his command. When
these are united, there is no stopping it. And while individual tools can sometimes do the job, there
is nothing like a unified light, which displays love, faith, goodness, gentleness, temperance,
meekness, long suffering, joy, and peace. This is guaranteed to do the job. It is irresistible to the
ignorant, the confused and starving. Each time a light displayer is successful, they may become
involved in multiple displays on different levels to different individuals. Sometimes the complex
display cannot always be separated, as they are so intertwined. Each display of divine love is unique.
Each one has a different flavor, designed specifically for the soul. Each display of divine love is a
spiritual appeal, designed to bring forth the sleeping soul out of its cocoon.

Invariably we want to know how long each assignment is and when is it completed. Quantitatively
speaking, the answer to the question is variable. No specific time can be given for a soul as long as
there is a possibility that the soul may awaken from its self-imposed sleep; qualitatively speaking,
the answer is when the display of love finally saturates our souls and reflects the light outwards, or
when the object of the love display removes itself from being influenced. And each successful
display of divine love qualifies the displayer for even greater responsibilities. And this is the
benchmark of spiritual growth as well as the stimulus for it. This process continues on and on until
that day the display and displayer of love is perfected.

This concludes today's message on understanding the meanings of the assignments of love. We hope
you find something in this message to ponder and pray about as you go about your day.

Until next time, this is Dr. James Perry
