The Spirit of Truth

Greetings, brothers and sisters. This is Dr. James Perry continuing with our series where we seek to
explore the deeper meanings of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years, the heavenly
Father has revealed many revelations of spiritual truth to me, and I want to share them with you. This
morning we seek to understand the Spirit of Truth.

And now, sit back and listen to today's message.

The Spirit of Truth

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with
you for ever; even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him
not, neither knoweth him: But ye know him; for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you."
John, Chapter 14, Verse 17.

Brothers and sisters, today we examine the Spirit of Truth. We know that when Jesus left this world
he sent his Spirit to live in our hearts and minds, to reveal the Father to us. This Spirit of Truth gives
us new endowments so we who believe Jesus can experience the heights of spiritual reality while
still treading the lowly valley of the flesh.

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then the spirit of truth is the voice of the soul. In heaven, all
divine relationships are characterized by love. This love is reflected out into the universe and is the
greatest spiritual reality that exists, or can exist. God is love, and he bestows this love upon his
mortal children in the form of the divine spirit. This divine spirit is the love of God indwelling our
minds and souls. The relationship of the Father to his children is characterized by love. All spiritual
values and meanings are derived from this great relationship which has its origin in eternity and its
source in infinity. Truth is the observation of these relationships between the Father and his children.
Thus Jesus came to reveal the truth of the relationship between the heavenly Father and ourselves.
We therefore see him before Pilate stating: "for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear
witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice."

Jesus is the personification of Truth. He assumed the form of a human being and lived the life of a
mortal just like you and I but without sin. In his life he perfectly demonstrated the relationship of
love between the Father and himself. Having demonstrated this divine relationship, he now bestows
the spirit of this perfect relationship upon us, his human brothers and sisters. This is the Spirit of
Truth.

We mortals must use material means for expressing ourselves in the material world. In order to effect
a change in the material world we must use our material attributes to do so. In the spiritual world,
a spiritual being must use spiritual means for achieving its spiritual goals. Thus a spirit uses a spirit
to achieve his spiritual goals. Jesus becomes the personification of Truth, holding within his very
existence the perfect relationship of Father and Son. The Father and His Son are one. When he
wishes to propagate this relationship to others, he does so by his Spirit-the Spirit of Truth. This Spirit
is the creative force that brings about the spiritual transformation of our souls.

When the Father's spirit comes to live in our minds, a new reality comes into existence. This reality
is the soul, and it is our spiritual nature. It has the potential to become a perfected spirit. This soul
begins to exert itself by its identification with the divine nature. It begins to express a divine reality
in the midst of the material reality and begins to experience divine love when this soul is further
encompassed by the Spirit of Truth.

A soul encompassed by the Spirit of Truth can consciously experience the reality of divine sonship,
and can actually respond to his moral and spiritual environment divinely. This is made possible by
the function of the Spirit of Truth, which accelerates the growth of the soul so that divine values and
meanings are more readily comprehended. This Spirit of Truth enables the soul to function on high
spiritual levels. It provides the conviction and the assurance that the soul is indeed the son of the
Heavenly Father. It allows the soul to consciously grasp the values and meanings of divine sonship
so that it can become more effective in its faith achievements. This Spirit of Truth enables the soul
to bear the beautiful fruits of the spirit rather than the human fruits of selfishness, intolerance, hatred
and fear.

This beautiful spirit makes real the philosophical understanding that God is love and the truth that
we are the sons and daughters of Him, so real that our souls become loyal to the way of the Father
and become an eternal conduit for the Father to manifest himself on this level of reality. Such a soul
is now empowered and is personally aware of its eternal relationship so that it is prepared to lay
down its material life in its efforts to reveal the Father's love and the Son's mercy. When asked how
do you know that this relationship exist? Such a soul answers, "I know it the same way that I know
who I am. I am an active son of the Father, and the reality of being an active son imparts the spiritual
reality to my being. I know what I have experienced."

The value of this spirit is that it makes clear to our consciousness that we are more than mortals, that
we are the spiritual sons and daughters of the heavenly Father. It allows us to experience in our daily
lives the truth of the Father's love. Its meaning is that no longer are we doomed to watch our slowing
disintegrating body without eternal hope. It allows us to enjoy the transition from being mortal to
being an immortal, a new creature that is now filled with faith, hope and trust and divine inspiration
despite his mortality. For at such a time, he cries, "my Vindicator lives eternally, and if he live
eternally, then I live too. This Spirit of Truth will carry our souls from the life in the flesh to the life
in the spirit, always crying, "Fear not, I am one with you, and this is the way, follow me!" Finally the
Spirit of Truth allows for the magnificent display of the Father's character through His Son, Jesus.

This concludes today's message on the Spirit of Truth. We hope you find something in this message
to ponder and pray about as you go about your day.

Until next time, this is Dr. James Perry.
